Is it internet fraud? I panicked! It turns out I have signed up for the free trial to Amazon Prime and after the trial period has lapsed, Amazon automatically enrolled me to an annual paid membership to Amazon prime. And oh yes, if you look back at the free trial and the fine prints that follow, they did say they would charge me. Grrr…
I GOOGLED for people who had the same problem. Alas. I’m not alone. I saw plans to sue Amazon and discussions on how unfair it was that Amazon was doing this. A lot of people even said that they will never transact with Amazon again.
The bottom line is that I don’t want to have Amazon Prime. I don’t want the yearly $79 charge…
SO WHAT CAN BE DONE? Amazon Prime Membership can be cancelled easily… and as quite clearly stated in Amazon Prime’s FAQ, the $79 bill can be refunded. HOW?
1 SIMPLY, go to
https://www.amazon.com/gp/subs/primeclub/account/homepage.html
and click cancel account. DONE! You will get your refund in 2-3 days if you didn’t make any Amazon prime purchase in the period you have been automatically enrolled to the Amazon Prime.
2. You can CALL the number:

(I called the number using Skype)

And you just give them your email address and request that the Amazon Prime membership be cancelled and your $79 be refunded.
No questions asked. You’ll have your money back.

Thank you. It was very usefull. I was desperate because of the charge and reading this made me fell a little bit calm. I already called Amazon and canceled everything. I imagine how much money they earn from people than do not control their account.
I never bought anything from Amazon with my credit card. I would like to know how they got my number to charge me…. They are doing an inquiry to be able to give me my money back…They said just the inquiry will take at least 48 hours..Wonder how many more people are going through this as well…
Alright everyone! i checked my bank account this morning and the naughty little blighters have charged me £50.!!!

gosh.. i was so upset/suprised when i found that i had been charged..i brought something whilst i was on the membership tho..so does that mean i wont get refunded?

Thank you!!! I had no idea where this charge came from and I just googled the charge and this link came up. Such a scheme on AMZ’s part, really disappointed in them, at least they’ll refund it.

I’m so glad to see i wasnt the only one stung like this. Thanks for creating this forum, saved me £50. Cant believe a supposedly reputeable site like Amazon would try and do something like this. this is so helpful, I was so shocked by £49 quid suddenly being taken out of my account, and i didn’t expect it so much that I actually cancelled my card because I thought that someone had my account details and was randomly spending my money!

This is becoming a common theme with online sites, Amazon got my Dad just today. Watch out especially if you use things that also offer “services” like credit watches or reports, my Dad also got signed up to some schlock service to monitor his credit, I was standing right behind him and the opt out was designed to actually opt in!! He had to actually cancel his bank account and start a new one just to stop the charges and the bank cautioned him that they may actually attempt to attach it to his new account!!.

A month had passed and I just noticed “$79.00 from merchant AMZ*Prime Club AMZ*Prime” charged to my card…I kinda freaked out a bit, and at the same time wondering what was going on. Made a quick google and stumbled upon this wonderful information….THANK YOU!

Thanks pal. The same thing happened to me. I’m glad I have Internet banking so I could see the transaction long before the monthly statement arrived. I just Googled the phone number that was on the transaction and found this blog entry.
Canceling was easy. I just hope they automatically credit my account.
What annoys me about this is that I went looking in my Amazon account for the transaction and it didn’t list it. So the only other way I could have figured this out would have been to contest it to my bank.

I looked up that account on Amazon.com and it looks like they charged me in 2007 and 2008. Is that possible? I don’t remember signing up for a free trial. Once in a while I order scripts from Amazon.com.

I had no trouble canceling the membership then I called to make sure I was getting my refund AND she told me to make sure that it doesn’t autorenew on your account every year. You could be charged $79 EVERY YEAR. How infuriating! I’m glad I called to double check.
